The Scaling Hypothesis
Gwern
“The scaling hypothesis regards the blessings of scale as the secret of AGI: intelligence is ‘just’ simple neural units & learning algorithms applied to diverse experiences at a (currently) unreachable scale.”
Read years later, this is the clearest early statement of the bet the whole industry ended up making. What still stands out is that it treats scale as an empirical claim to be tested, not an article of faith.
